JSON to YAML converter
Paste JSON and get the equivalent YAML, indented with 2 spaces the way CI configs and Kubernetes manifests expect. Nothing you paste leaves your browser.
Text is processed by your own browser and never leaves your device: this page has no server to send it to.
How it works
The input is parsed with the strict JSON parser and re-serialized as YAML. Strings that would read as another YAML type, like "1.0" or "true", come out quoted so the round trip preserves types exactly. The converter chunk loads on your first keystroke, not with the page.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some strings quoted in the output?
Because unquoted they would change type: version: 1.0 is a number in YAML and version: '1.0' is a string. Quoting is only added where the type would otherwise flip.
Is every JSON document valid YAML already?
Technically yes, YAML 1.2 is a superset of JSON. But converted YAML is what you want in configs: block indentation instead of braces is the readable form reviewers expect.
Does it preserve key order?
Yes. Keys come out in the same order the JSON declares them, which keeps diffs clean when you convert a config that is under version control.
