Base64 decode
Paste Base64 and read the original text instantly. Whitespace and line breaks inside the input are ignored, decoding is UTF-8 aware, and nothing you paste leaves your browser.
Text is processed by your own browser and never leaves your device: this page has no server to send it to.
How it works
The input is stripped of whitespace, decoded from the standard Base64 alphabet back to bytes, and those bytes are interpreted as UTF-8 text. Invalid Base64 or byte sequences that are not valid UTF-8 raise an error instead of printing garbage.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I get an error on my input?
Either the string is not valid Base64 (stray characters, wrong padding) or it decodes to bytes that are not UTF-8 text, which usually means it was a binary file rather than text.
Can I decode Base64 with line breaks in it?
Yes. Email and certificate tooling wraps Base64 at 64 or 76 columns; all whitespace is ignored before decoding, so wrapped input works as-is.
Can this decode files, like images?
This page targets text. A Base64 string of an image will decode to binary and be rejected as not-text; an image converter that accepts data URLs is the better tool for that.
