HTML to Markdown converter

Paste HTML, a blog post, docs page or CMS export, and get tidy Markdown: # headings, **bold**, fenced code blocks and inline links. Nothing you paste leaves your browser.

Output

Text is processed by your own browser and never leaves your device: this page has no server to send it to.

How it works

The HTML is parsed by your browser's own engine and walked node by node, emitting the Markdown equivalent of each element: atx-style headings, hyphen bullets, fenced code blocks. Elements with no Markdown form, like div or span, contribute their text content and disappear.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to tags Markdown cannot express?

Structural wrappers like div and span dissolve into their contents. Genuinely rich elements, like a table with merged cells, survive as inline HTML, which Markdown permits.

Will scripts and styles leak into the output?

No. script and style blocks are dropped entirely; only visible content is converted. Still review the result before publishing, as with any automated migration.

Why convert content to Markdown at all?

Markdown survives tooling changes: it diffs cleanly in git, edits in any editor, and every generator reads it. HTML exports from a CMS rarely offer any of that.
