Text diff checker

Paste the original text on the left and the edited version on the right; added and removed lines are highlighted with plus and minus markers and counted. Both texts stay in your browser.

Text is processed by your own browser and never leaves your device: this page has no server to send it to.

How it works

The comparison finds the longest common subsequence of lines between the two texts, the same core idea git uses, so an inserted paragraph shows as pure additions instead of turning every following line into a change. Very large inputs (over 3000 lines) fall back to a plain before and after view.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from git diff?

Same underlying idea, minus the context windows: this view shows the whole text with changed lines marked, which for prose and configs is easier to scan than hunk headers.

Does it diff within a line?

No, the unit is the whole line: a one-character edit marks the line as removed and re-added. Word-level diffing is on the list for a future revision.

Is any of the text uploaded for comparison?

No. The algorithm is a few lines of JavaScript running in your tab; contracts, code or drafts never leave your machine.
