Freelance income tracker

Log each payment as it lands and the ledger keeps the running answers: what you have collected this year, what should already be sitting in the tax account, your monthly pace, and the next estimated payment date. Everything stays in this browser; nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Estimate

The formula

Net YTD = payments collected minus your expense percent. The set-aside rate comes from the same 2025 federal engine as the tax set-aside calculator, applied to your net pace extrapolated to a full year, plus your flat state rate. Tax account balance = net YTD × that rate.

What this ignores

Single filer, standard deduction, a flat state rate, and a straight-line projection of the rest of the year. A big January or a slow summer skews the pace; the rate corrects itself as you keep logging payments.

Uses 2025 IRS constants (standard deduction $15,000; Social Security wage base $176,100).

FAQ

Where is my data stored?
In your browser's localStorage, on your device. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, there is no account, and we cannot see your numbers. The flip side: clearing browser data or switching devices starts the ledger empty.
Why does the set-aside rate change as I log payments?
Federal tax is progressive, so the right percent depends on where the full year is heading, not on any single invoice. Each new payment updates the projection, and the recommended rate follows it. Expect it to settle down after a few months of data.
What do I do when the estimated payment date arrives?
Pay the IRS from the tax account you have been funding, via IRS Direct Pay or EFTPS, then keep logging. The quarterly tax calculator computes the payment amount itself; this tracker's job is making sure the money is there when the date comes.
