The IRS postponed federal filing and payment deadlines to February 1, 2027 for people who live or run a business in Chelan, Ferry, Okanogan, Spokane, Stevens, or Yakima Counties, announced August 31 as WA-2026-03. The same window covers the Yakama Nation, the Colville Reservation, and the Spokane Tribe of Indians, after FEMA’s EM-3650-WA declaration for the wildfires.

Estimated income tax originally due on or after July 31, 2026, including the September 15 installment, can wait until February 1, 2027. There is no estimated-tax penalty if you pay by then. The IRS applies this automatically when your last return shows an address in the covered area. If your records are there but you are not, call the disaster line at 866-562-5227. Forms in the 1099 and W-2 series stay on their original dates.

If you are on that list, compute the September figure now so the amount is sitting when the new date arrives. Our quarterly tax calculator turns year-to-date profit into that installment.

The extra months are real, the tax is not waived, so treat February 1 as a hard pay date.
